If you were to describe the Christian life in one word, what would it be? Would it be faith or love or obedience? None of those very important words were used at the first Christmas! Instead, the very first thing the angel said was, “Behold, I bring you good news of great joy.” (Luke 2:10) He didn’t say great faith or great love or great peace or even great obedience!! Joy is to characterize our lives in following Jesus Christ. A lot of folks think that following Christ is all about rules, regulations and rituals. But Romans 14:17 says, “The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” In fact, Paul goes so far as to say, “Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4)
However, as we look around at the world we live in, most people aren't enjoying life!! Even people in movies and TV shows are not joyful people. They’re depressed, sad and cynical! How can we experience the JOY that God says is ours? Fortunately there is a whole chapter of the Bible dedicated to helping us find joy. On Sunday, at 10:00am, after a wonderful time of singing praises to the Lord (which is one of the BIGGEST secrets of finding joy), we are going to study that chapter!!
God bless and can’t wait to see you Sunday at 10:00am!!
PS - Quarterback Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints football team is putting up a "Super Service Challenge" for Christian organizations. He is giving away up to $100,000 to the winner. Kerry Gotzmann and others in our church have put together a power point presentation about our church and our building program and we need you to "vote" for us by going to the web site at www.superservicechallenge.com and look up "Living Hope Christian Church" and hit the "vote" button. This morning the web site was running, but this afternoon it wasn't. Did it crash? Maybe the Affordable Care website builders worked on this website as well!! But be patient!! I'm sure it will be back up soon!!
